Jay,

I like the way you initiated on putting up extra work and adding the background. That means you are considering that this is for a comic book page and to be treated as such. Showing details like the torn costumes tell me that you have a grasp of story telling.

The use of shadows is nice, not perfect but certainly adds drama. When I got the file though, the lines up close looks shaky, is that the fault of the scanner?

You have to work on several things, though. Make the line crisp and clear. Some hatches are too straight; a little curve won't hurt and will give an illusion of substance. The head of Batman should be a bit bigger. Remember that the structure for the head limits itself to his skull alone. When we put the mask on, we should give a little extra layer to his skull, thus giving his head more mass.

Over all, I think you did a very good job.

Batman's head DOES look a bit awkward though.
